Bathers at Compton Lock
A long hot summer, in a time before ‘social-distancing’ was invented! This is an image painted from photographs and sketches made in June 2019.
The picture shows youngsters having fun and braving the cold waters of old Compton Lock. Nowadays, the old lock is a weir on the Itchen Navigation. The Itchen Way footpath runs alongside this pool and The Itchen River flows closeby. The weir is accessible via footpaths from both Shawford, Winchester and from Twyford, Winchester.
Watercolour, gouache and acrylic.
Image area 40 cm x 25 cm.
Framed size 50 cm x 35 cm.
